Intro (5/28/16) An atomic war stemming from the Cold War caused mass destruction and almost entirely obliterated human existence as well as the residuum species of life. Anyone left is living in a massive fallout zone littered with radiation that affected the humans and the remainder of life. "People" is loosely defined term as the population is no longer simply specialized workers, but also humans with genetic editing galore either from the war or the radiation over the generations. No species is entire good, although there are plenty that are entirely evil. The only certainty is uncertainty and peril. Camps are spread wide apart and communicate via crippled radios so far away from government censorship people have their own understanding that the law, or what's left of it, is all up to the public's "good will." Entertainment is target practice and working in a factory overtime to manufacture ammunition and medicine to accompany the deadly food that's been stolen over the years. Some people have banded together in hopes of religion and knowledge in their "towns" although many claim this is all for naught as God cannot deliver them from cancer and destruction. Philosophy is its own revolution as well as the repeat of the industrial revolution. Weaponry never ceased to advance although the medical field is a realm of its own in that right. The best bet to live is to try to die. Risking your own life is the only thing that can assure the restoration of society; and even that is a lie.

Vaults (5/28/16) Some groups of people live in utopian societies that may be underground and above ground. It is theorized there is another on Mars and on the Moon. Millions of people subscribed to them in the same fashion one would a country club during and before the war in order to ensure the safety of their family. These societies entirely shelter the people they hold, unaware of the dangers of the outside world or the intense amounts of radiation they, too, harbor. These societies tend to kill of those with disabilities or do not conform as they may break the "public" of their perfect brainwashed state. Because of this intense subliminal messaging they live in that mirrors that of World War I, some of the outsiders that have been (un)fortunate enough to meet vault members believe that the prior government set them up. Most of these society members are numb to the outside world if they leave since they have no concept of what happened. This is primarily because their walls or educational or governmental system blocks radio systems. Communication outside these societies is not much better, although they do have forms of trading and minimal conflicts between them.

Drexel (5/30/16) Drexel is a mining town less than a day's walk away from Vault 349. This town was fashioned in 2088 by a large group of members from the neighboring vault as well as some miscellaneous settlers near by. The town itself was made nearly entirely of rusted sheets, old PVC pipes, and whatever that remained from demolished towns and the stolen property of the vaults. The original population is feisty, to put it kindly, as they all rebelled from their vaults and were strongheaded enough to build a town by hand. The community is relatively close due to this as well as the town being so small, but do not mistake them to be nice people. They are armed to the teeth and ready to shoot at any moment. People join and leave town regularly to venture for food, medicine, or materials to fix the town. Much of the town is based off of trade and mutual understanding for this purpose. As the town is still very new and the first generation was from a mass outbreak of their vault, they were all taught with the same propaganda and remain in some of their older ways, one of which having children. This original generation is currently the first of three, the youngest generation being Bonnie and Lydia's generation (the same as the current children). Since the town is so tight-knit from their days in the vault, building the town itself, and living in such close proximity, everyone knows each other (for better for for worse) and have all have children at roughly the same times thus having the children close in age and all being close friends as well, also encouraging the need for an educational system. The system set up at present is sending the children to a specialized adult in town once a week to teach them. This mining town is relatively new in comparison to the rest of the small towns. As most of the Americas' natural materials have been spent, the primary export from Drexel's mining is old metal scraps and revamped old material found from destroyed towns as well as weapons. Their main imports are medical supplies and canned goods. Drexel has a trade system between a few other towns, all a far walk and done by a group of heavily armed men and women. The route goes directly to friendly towns, although it passes by other base camps of both hostile and docile groups. Looting has become an essential skill in the lives of caravan riders due to this. Trade is so important since growing crops in Drexel is a joke, if anything. Mining iron for weapons and ammunition, which is their primary export. Trading is also so crucial since radiation and disease is pointedly prominant in town. The local government does its best to maintain prosperity, although the town rarely encounters internal chaos since the barter system has been working just fine. The government is primarily in place as a security blanket and to monitor imports and exports as well as make decisions about intruders. This "government" is really a loose term for a group of first and second generation people and anyone else that wants to come to meetings to ensure the safety of the town. Economy is not much of a worry as it is primarily friendly trade both in and out of town. On the matter of basic infrastructure: There is no running water. Most of the remains from food or other types of trash tend to go to the weapon makers in town as they are cans and bottles. The owner of a house or inn is responsible for bringing excess to the mining house where materials are stored before distribution. Most of what they eat is canned foodstuffs and old bottled drinks, although even these are not entirely safe from radiation and people need to be treated soon after.

Beauty Standards (5/30/16) Giving the binaries as they overlap in some places and can be meshed with your character. This is heavily based off the fourties to sixties. Notice the Marilyn Monroe and Guys and Dolls paralles. These are basic pointers and do not represent all people or characters and can obviously be broken and still be normal. Women

Religion (5/30/16) Not all towns and cities maintain religion or have a declared religion. In this time, it is either greatly preached or a personal preference done in private. This depends on the town and the family. It is not necessary to follow religion anywhere, and there will be more present than listed although as/if any are added, this list will take note. Athiests Atheists do not believe in any god. Just as any other group, some are hostile extremists and others are docile and passive. It is unlikely they will cause problems as they do not actively seek conversation about religion. Not believing in a God does not mean they are all not spiritual, as they may meditate and have a strong sense of spirituality and understanding and belonging. This is the most followed "religion."
Uloyiso Meaning Conquest in Xhosa, the followers of this religion believe that all people have purpose in the world and that meeting as many people as possible will bring a person closer to godliness. While this religion has become peaceful and friendly religion, it has greatly devolved over time from its once militaristic and vicious state. It originally began as a way to control the masses and spread by looters as a way to gain money and power although has since been taken over by a Yoyiswe, or Conqueror, who has nearly completely reworked the religion. Many still follow in the old ways although are not powerful enough in their pockets to gain any sufficient amount of land. The people of Uloyiso believe that the Yoyiswe is the leader of the religion similar to a Pope, and was divinely chosen and shall reveal themselves when the time has come. They do believe in God, although they follow the set teachings of the Yoyiswe, which correlate to their time on earth. This means that the teachings change for time to keep the religion alive and time-appropriate. Mercantilism, one of their left over teachings from the original Yoyiswe, describes their living conditions. The people of the Uloyiso tend to live together and take up large areas and do not leave them frequently. They often trade within their own areas and only leave in attempts to spread religion and/or land. This religion may be compact, but is the second-most followed religion. Spirina The followers of this religion believe that each town has a native spirit that brought its inhabitance, and that people are all brought together because the Spirits have something planned for them. These religious followers do not live in any sort of specific region. Some will live in the same place all their lives and others will travel claiming the Spirits told them to. The Enlightened often preach to their surrounding locals about general prayer and understanding of spirituality. This is because the Spirits allow people to believe in other religions because of the Theory of Dialectics. The Enlightened only generally disapprove of unspiritual people, though this does not directly mean atheists. This religion is the most widely spread and the fourth-most followed. Christianity Christianity has been majorly warped since the war as many of the beliefs today have not had the chance to be developed and most of the vaults have liquidated the information on it. In this time, Christianity is entirely for controlling the masses and has very strict rules. Very few people still follow the religion since it holds no water in their current society and many of the beliefs and commandments are outdated. Churchs are even more rare than the following population and is not practiced publically since they may be persecuted due to its controlling nature. This is the least-followed religion. Pip-Interligon This is the religion most widely followed in the vaults. Upon emerging, many people will convert to others having been shown the light of the propagande they've been living. Obviously this is not true for all, and thus it does exist outside the Vaults but the followers aren't taken seriously. The partianoj, or followers, believe in the power of the government and working together. This believes that the advancement of one will advance the whole and nearly entire equality, although contradictory. The religion alligns well with communism as well as the teachings of Thomas Hobbes.

The Wasteland (5/31/16) The lands beyond the vaults are known as Wastelands. They are dusty and desolate lands that no longer hold native species. Mountains have been flattened and valleys mostly filled. Large dustbowls and craters from bombs can be found littering the mud-stained landscapes. The sky has been relatively cleared of smog although the gunpowder and remnants of warfare can still ruin the land for days after acid rain sessions. Some of the only things across the skyline are the ruins of towns and cities. Skyscrapers now bow to a few stories tall, if standing at all. The ground is strewn with broken glass, missile and bullet shells, shattered bombs, and building pieces. Of course this doesn't include the remains of human bodies; primarily bones, though. Flora and fauna is nonexistant although it is rumored that if there is an oasis in existence, the plants there would be living in poisoned water and would be dangerous for consumption and may even be capable of attacking those around them due to the radiation. The dangers of the wastelands include constant possibility of ambush by humans or monsters, unfiltered radiation, lack of protection from the elements, severe lack of supplies, traps, and active minefields as well as other explosives. Many deem venturing the abyss to be not worth the risks although plenty live off of looting and trading and thus have made maps and plans often transmitted over radio to neighboring towns. Dangers aside, the wastelands do have nomads sustaining themselves. These people have left their vaults and travel between old abandonned towns from before the war and some newly established towns for materials. These people typically do not want to stay in one place for hopes of being safer together and not gaining attatchments as well as not wanting to fall into the traps of another limiting society.

The After-Effects of Radiation (5/31/16) As previously stated, no native species inhabit the wastelands. This, of course, is because the adaptation of living things is a mystery. A number of species, as well as humans, were not preserved in vaults and have thus gone the way of natural selection. The intense amounts of radiation and critical living conditions have weeded out the fair majority of life; those who remain have become vicious and threatening beasts, most unrecognizable to their original species. One example of this is the cockroach. This insect has grown tremendously in size and offensive capabilities. Humans that never fled to vaults now have all types of mutations ranging from skin conditions to organ diseases, and over the years, even the redevelopment of tails and extra limbs (slowly but surely, evidently). They are not naturally harmful beings, although plenty of them are bitter towards members of the vaults, especially their ignorance of the war and its effects. They have developed their own towns and tend to band together as none of them are capable to do much on their own. These super-humans may be incredibly powerful although in other cases are incredibly handicapped and require immense volumes of energy for simple of a task as walking. Plenty of escaped vault members or those domesticated to the wastelands live side by side with these people and work together. Similarly to that of a hybrid, the mutants not living with condemning birth defects are hardy beyond compare and tend to work in physical fields including trade routes, town defense, and mining.

Languages (5/31/16) Like any normal society, there is cultural diversity. One way this is demonstrated is though spoken language. Towns tend to use the same language although using multiple languages in one area, especially trade capitals, is not uncommon, either. English The most widespread language and is used most often. This is because of it being the largest used language across the world in the first place as well as it meshing with other languages. Dialects still live on as well as slang and colloquialisms and accents. Esperanto This artificial language is the second most common across the Wasteland as all the vault members were taught it as a second language. This language is considered the easiest to learn and was initially created to be the universal language. It is considered commonplace and taught both inside and outside of the vault for this purpose. Frequent are the times has it been used for trade and business as well as negotiation as it is relatively world wide. Spanish While another latin-based language, the third most common language is learned for the purpose of its simplicity and shared understanding between cultures. It was mainted over the time in the vaults because of the melting pot America is considered and the wide-spread culture. Other Other commonplace languages do not require such in-depth analysis and will thus be listed below.

The Moon and Mars (5/31/16) The atomic war that caused the wastelands and the collapse of society began in the Cold War, overlapping with the Space Race and the Arms race. The vaults placed all across the world in order to preserve the human race and culture may not be the end. A number of people have theoriezed that the Moon and Mars were both acquired by the American government in attempts to win the Space Race and were done in secret over time. The Moon This vault is thought to be incredibly small as it must be well hidden. Some believe it is on the surface of the moon and covered in paint or dust to keep it well camoflaged while others believe it is inside the moon. Some even think the entire moon itself is the largest vault in existance. In the event anyone truly lives on the moon, it is likely it is the most patriotic of all vaults. To continue, the people most likely follow Christianity and speak English and Esperanto. Mars Unlike the moon, the mars base is thought to be larger and not hidden in the slightest as a way to have "America's Final Laugh." This vault most likely is the size of three regular vaults and has evolved a culture of its own over time although is greatly lacking current technology due to lack of information, communication, and materials. Both of these bases are unlikely in the first place as the technology to maintain these vaults was not yet developed and has since been destroyed. These civilizations have probably died out from lack of food and/or water, disease, or the sheer power of stir-crazy maniacs.

Gender, Sex, Sexuality (6/27/16) In every society, there are people who won't accept general truths. Those people are from from obliterated, but have decreased in number since the war. Some of the reasons for this change include
